About Us

Standard Motors has been in Swift Current since 1910 which makes us 100 years old this year. We have had two main locations since inception. The original location was at the corner of 1st Ave N.W. and Cheadle. In 1951 we purchased the International Harvester Field Warehouse building at 44-2nd Ave. N.W., where we presently operate from. In 1964 the dealership burned down leaving the ownership to rebuild in 1965 on the same location. Standard Motors has gone through a number of renovations over the years, with the most recent one in 2005 when we replaced the showroom and renovated the customer service and parts reception areas. In 1986 we moved our Auto body division to1699 Chaplin St. W. to provide our staff and customers with a larger facility and free up some space for our service department and our vehicle detailing department.

In 2001 Jim Plewis purchased the Pontiac Buick GMC franchise from Murray Pratt and Gord Budd , subsequently Standard Motors became the largest General Motors Dealership in Southwest Saskatchewan with over 26,000 square feet of building, selling and servicing Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicles.

Besides having the best selection of new vehicles, we also have a great selection of Optimum Used Vehicles. We have an outstanding Award Winning Service Department with thirteen Factory trained GM Technicians to maintain our customers’ vehicles. Along with a well stocked parts and accessories department and State-of-the-Art Collision Repair Centre equipment to make your vehicle look new again. Standard Motors is a one stop vehicle shopping center.

Standard Motors main market is Swift Current and Southwest Saskatchewan. Our customers come from a variety of occupations and backgrounds, including farming, ranching, oil, and manufacturing industries. Our customers are of all ages and require vehicles for various applications including- sport, family, or business. We have something to fit everyones desires.

Standard Motors has been a strong supporter of the Regional Hospital with a donation of $50,000 to the Noble Irwin Foundation. We have supported a number of service groups, and sports and cultural organizations from Swift Current and Surrounding communities. We participate and support staff in projects and programs offered around the area.

Our main goal for our business is to provide customers with products and services that exceed their expectations. Once a customer has purchased a vehicle or any other products, had service or auto body work done at our dealership, we take responsibility in keeping them well informed on keeping their vehicle looking as good as the day they purchased it. We measure our success by continuing to see our customers return to our business. We track our customers through our computer data base and keep in touch through our sales team, customer relationship representative, our service and parts team and our business development center.
