How to Fix Scratches on a Car

A small scratch on your vehicle usually doesn’t represent enough damage to take it into a local Regina-area body shop. The following tips demonstrate how to fix scratches on a car yourself.

  • Sandpaper: Taking care of small, shallow scratches on the surface of your vehicle is easy. First, you should thoroughly clean the affected area, and then gently rub over it with 2000-grit wet sandpaper. Once it’s at a point where the scratch is almost invisible, apply a rubbing compound.
  • Candle wax: Gently rubbing candle wax over the cleaned area can help to seal the scratch. However, this is only a temporary solution.
  • Super glue: Similar to candle wax, super glue can help seal the scratch temporarily so that it blends with the vehicle.

How to Fix a Small Dent in a Car

Even a small dent can ruin the good looks of your car when you’re out and about in Saskatoon. Trying one of these easy do-it-yourself dent fixes may restore your vehicle to its former condition and could save you a trip to the body shop.

  • Plunger: A bathroom plunger or a special car dent plunger can pop the dent out.
  • Hammer or Mallet: Use one of these on the opposite side of the dent to knock the dent back into place. A hammer is good for smaller fixes, and a mallet is best for larger dents. Make sure to protect the side you are hammering with a towel or something equivalent to avoid further damage.
  • Dent puller: This method requires drilling a hole in the dent, lacing wire through it, and pulling the dent back to surface level. You’ll then need to fill the hole, sand it down, and paint the area. Warning: You should only use a dent puller if you have experience.
